Spring Break - Day 3

Hey all! We saw the Bodie Island and Cape Hatteras lighthouses on this day. We couldn't go up into them, but were able to walk in the Bodie lighthouse. It was really cool to look up and see the spiral staircase. We spent most of the morning exploring the lighthouses, then we made more sandwiches for lunch and headed to the beaches for shells. The first couple of beaches were the same as the others. Thick sand, lots of people and no shells still in tack. Sophie and the boys had a lot of fun digging and playing though, as you can imagine.

The last beach we drove onto wasn't so much fun. It had a lot softer and thicker sand on it and yes, as you can probably guess by now, we got stuck. Monte's big 2500 4x4 Silverado got stuck, up to the frame, in the sand. At first, there wasn't anyone around that could help us at the end of the beach that we were at, so we all attempted to dig the tires out of the sand. Sophie even got in on the digging. She saw what Brady was doing and ran over to him, ducked under his arms and began digging herself. It was so cute! I tell you, she is one smart puppy! Anyway, that wasn't really working and finally someone came to our rescue, or tried too. The poor guy almost got stuck himself trying to pull us out. So we gave him our cell phone number and he drove off the beach to the nearest gas station to call us a tow truck. Monte and I were actually laughing at getting stuck. We've been stuck so many times, he and I, starting back to when we were dating. We just chalked it up to yet another "Smith Family Adventure" or SFA as Brady says we should start referring to them. Anyway, after we realized we might need a tow truck, it wasn't so funny. We were really scared at how much it was going to cost us. But, before the wrecker even called us back, we were rescued. It was quite a miracle as the guy had just bought his tow rope the day before and we were the second people he had gotten out of the sand that day. I just want to say thank you to the guys that helped and thank you to Jesus for sending them our way. It pretty much would have ruined our vacation if we had to pay a tow truck, which we found out afterwards, would have cost us around $500....yikes!

After we got out of the sand, we headed back to the camper for dinner and some relaxation. We were all tired from trying to dig the truck out and just didn't feel like doing anything else after our SFA.

So that was day three. Have a great night everyone. God Bless! :)
