Days 1 & 2

So, we left Kalispell at noon on Monday, August 4th. We drove through West Glacier and enjoyed the beautiful views of the Middle Fork and the backside of the Mountains in Glacier Park. Its been awhile since Monte or I have been that way, so it was nice to see it again. Anyway, once you get to Browning, its not so pretty anymore. The drive gets a bit long and tedious as there isn't much to see except brown fields. However, while driving through Chester, Montana we got to watch a bright yellow crop duster plane take off. It was really exciting for the boys, especially when it lifted into the air and flew right over the truck. Then, the drive was back to seeing nothing but wheat fields and brown pastures. When we passed through Rudyard, Montana, I got a kick out of the welcome sign. It said: "Welcome to Rudyard: 596 Nice People and 1 Sore Head." Kind of an interesting statement huh? I wonder what the "sore head" thinks? Ha Ha

We spent the rest of the day driving and made it to Fort Peck, Montana. We pulled in at about 9pm that night and found a nice campground to stay in along the Fort Peck lake. We spent all day Tuesday in Fort Peck, touring the Fort Peck Dam and Interactive Center (which included some dinosaur exhibits).

A few years back an entire set of T-Rex bones were dug up in Fort Peck. The skull to the left is a replica of the actual skull. The picture above is a replica of the entire dinosaur.

We also spent some time swimming and fishing at Duck Creek recreation area on the Fort Peck lake.

And then, after a long day of touring, sight seeing, swimming and fishing, we headed back to the campground. The boys spent about an hour riding their bikes and playing, then we sat by the fire and had some s'mores. After sunset, which we got some great pictures of, we were chased inside the camper by a nice little summer storm.
